It hasn't been a good couple of weeks for the trees in my neighborhood.

A couple of weeks ago, we had a massive thunderstorm sweep through and not only knock branches out of most of the trees in the area, but completely tear down a tree in a yard across the street. Last night, another storm swept through-like the first one, it blew up out of nowhere and was gone in less than 20 minutes-and it knocked down another tree across the street, though at a different house. Given the size and number of trees around my house, plus the fact that this house was completely rebuilt in 2003 after Hurricane Isabel came through, this is something of a concern for me. No more tree fallings, plz.

After the storm, I went out to dinner with Robyn and John, and Robyn decided we should try someplace we hadn't been yet. Buffalo Wild Wings. Think Hooters, only without the women in short shorts. Think of a sports bar kind of place with lots of TVs playing sporting events if you've never been to Hooters. Anyway, given my love for buffalo wings, this is pretty much a match made in heaven. The wings are better than Hooters (though not as good as the ones I get from Cal'z over in Norfolk and Virginia Beach) and unlike the local Hooters, which is pretty small, there's plenty of seating and room. I think I shall be going there more often.

The part of the post about World of Warcraft that will cause most people's eyes to glaze over:

Had a great night last night, running more of the Naxxramas 10 man that I actually skipped out on doing on Thursday. Cleared the last boss of the Construct Quarter, all of the Military Quarter, and Sapphiron the undead dragon thing. The best part for me? Three epic gears dropped, to go with the one I got a few nights ago. I'm getting seriously geared, though there is a guy in my guild who is rolling for the gear I need and he whines like a bitch when he loses to me. He actually whispered me last night and told me to stop beating his rolls! For the WoW clueless out there, loot from high end dungeons is given to the person who rolls the highest number from 1-100, and I have no control over what comes up. He just as easily could have won every roll I made against him, that's how it works. In fact, what he needs to do is to keep running Naxx with me, since there's like only two more things I want from there and the odds are in his favor now, but he just keeps on bitching. Anyway, the guild wants to try to run the Heroic version of Naxx, but I'm like, really tired of Naxx this week, so I'm giving it a miss, even though it's really fucking fun to play.

And that, as they say, is that.

Lobster-Bandidos
Greetings, world.

Last night, my guild in WoW was attempting a 25 man raid on the Naxxramas dungeon, on Heroic difficulty, which means it's really fucking hard! I had not been to even the 10 man normal version of Naxx because I still need a little bit better gear. I was wandering around doing some mining to make easy gold, though, when I got a message from the leader of my guild: they needed me at Naxx because they kept losing people. My guildies already knew I'm not ready for Naxx, but they needed a warm body to fill the spot. So I said, what the hell, at least I can laugh at how many times I die, and went. My Death Knight is specced for DPS, damage per second, but for the first couple of bosses, where I was both overwhelmed by the sheer carnage of 25 people attacking a boss and then hit by lag death (no shit, one second I was alive, then the game lagged and in the lag period I died) DPS less stood for damage per second than it did Dying Pretty Suddenly. But I got on top of it and started having a blast. Four wipes (everyone dying) against one boss actually helped me, because if these experienced, well geared, awesome players were dying, well, there was no shame in undergeared, inexperienced me dying. We actually got it together good as a group by the end and wiped out one boss without a single death. Now, though, I understand why people have such interest in and reverence for Naxx, because it's really fucking FUN to play. Just have lots of gold handy for repairs, though, you WILL get walloped a lot.

In other news, hey, look, my death metal interest is slightly back. New CDs by Obituary and Suffocation will do that, though I am dealing with some disappointment; the new Necrophagist CD has now been pushed back until 2010. That's six years between CDs. Sheesh. Anyway, the new Obituary and Suffocation CDs are pretty kick ass, though the Obituary one suffers from the modern curse of bands having to have 13 songs on an CD, and it starts wearing out its welcome around track 10. I used to feel almost let down when I'd buy a CD and it's be between 35 and 45 minutes long since CDs can hold almost 80, but now I'd rather have 35 awesome minutes than 15 minutes of padding. Less, indeed, sometimes is more.

Hey world.

Super Bowl today, which means what it usually does around here-looking for good commercials and eating food, since Mom's started having a sort of Super Bowl party the past few years. From what I've heard, the commercials might now be as much of a big deal this year, since a lot of companies aren't willing to pay the money for a Super Bowl slot when the economy sucks so. In fact, my interest is mainly in watching to see what big summer movies will have commercials-I know the Transformers sequel will have one-and that's about it.

The game? Oh, kind of hope the Cardinals win after the local media's week of kissing Mike Tomlin's ass, but I don't care much one way or the other.

Hey, look, an image post!

I might only use my desktop to play RO, but when I do, by god, I've got the BEST MOUSEPAD EVER. Awesomeness.

Been one of those days.

Whoa, am I tired.

I've absolutely slain my sleep schedule lately-let's face it, I DON'T have one anymore-but today's not been one of my better days, or a great day for sleep around the house. I didn't fall asleep until insanely late, like four in the morning, and then it felt like I had been asleep for a a few seconds when my dad, who had also had troubles sleeping, went out into the living room and turned on the TV and woke me up. Took me until 5:20 to get back to sleep, and then Robyn, who is on vacation, showed up and was all "OMG LET'S GO OUT" to Mom and Dad, and none of them wanted to take John, so I was kicked out of bed at five minutes after nine! Oh lord preserve my sanity.

Then I decided, fuck it, I'll take a nap, only for Fritzie to decide that it was as good a time as any for "Barking Loudly At Nothing, An Opera For Smaller Canines in B Sharp" (because that little shit barks rather SHARPLY) and that fell through. Which leads me here, totally drained and unable to sleep because now if I do, I'm gonna be up all night AGAIN. Oh lord. :/

Yeah, time for me to fix that sleep schedule of mine before it gets any worse. Assuming that's actually possible at this point.

Sunday Laziness

A lazy Sunday, spent mainly burning six gigabytes of All Japan Pro Wrestling matches to CD, wishing all the while I had a DVD burner, and doing little else. Spent last night watching a great many classic All Japan matches and talking to Maggie and having all kinds of fun, and now I'm waiting for Battlestar Galactica to start and eating leftover chicken from my lunch at the wing bar at the local grocery store. (All kinds of chickin wings! It rocks!) and still having fun. Tis a good way to spend a day. :D Even if it's a lazy one.

One of those placeholder entries

I'd like to think that someday in the future, when people are connected to this system of tubes called the internet in so many more ways than we are today, that there will be a name for the condition where if one does not make some sort of daily impact upon the blogosphere (which is another one of those terms I loathe that seems to be here to stay), one fears that one will cease to exist. But that would mean that everyone is as neurotic as ME, which is a scary prospect.

So yah. Not much to say, but you know that I try to post every day. I am amusing. To someone, I hope.

My mom does the highly unlikely

Never tell my mom the odds.

My nephew John, who despite his handicaps is growing into a formidable gamer, wanted a Wii. I told my mom ages ago about what she needed to do to reserve one, and naturally, she didn't do it. I shrugged and figured that sooner or later John would get a Wii, and went on with life. This morning, apparently Mom saw the Target ad advertising the Wii launch, and headed out. Had I been awake, I would have told Mom to forget it, because people doubtlessly camped out and she wouldn't stand a chance in hell.

And I would have been wrong.

Dad wakes me up at 7:30 to announce that Mom managed to snag the LAST ticket the store had for buying a Wii. She came home with it at 8:50 and it's hidden safely away, to be opened on Christmas morning. I wonder if Mom has any conception of how unusual it is to get up, on the day a console launches, walk out to the store you want it from, and get it. Consider me impressed.

Now of course I'm tempted to get the Zelda game...:P

My musical moods

Ladies and gentlemen, after going through a stage where I was into prog rock and stuff with melody and all that...I am in the mood for thrash metal. Fucking old school thrash. Exodus. Kreator. Overkill. Hardcore, straight up, kick your face in thrash. Hell, might even be in a bit of a death metal mood (brutal stuff, not my preferred tech death) but yeah, right now, the CD player's got a shit load of thrash lined up for it.

Ladies and gentlemen, Black Friday has been topped.

Because in their neverending quest to give a handy name to everything, just now on CNN, I saw a story about how sales in online shopping spike dramatically on the first Monday after Thanksgiving, and as a result, today deserves a special name...

CYBER MONDAY!

asdfghjkl....this is wrong on so many levels. Primarily the simple fact that this is the internet...someone is cybering somebody EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR. They need to think this through...and people might think that my disdain for the media is overkill...

life on grayscale

It occurs to me that for the past week, someone has set my life to grayscale. This would account for the fact that I haven't seen the sun since last Wednesday...o.O I suppose I shouldn't complain, though...at least we haven't had flooding like people in New England. The weather has done the neat trick of making this week last forever...I woke up this morning and was pretty sure it HAD to be Saturday, until I remembered I hadn't been paid yet. Anyone who can deliver the sun to my house, I'll be grateful.

I broke down and bought the OST to Advent Children on eBay. Yet another argument for why I need high speed internet, I know.

Time for dinner. See you all with a full stomach, or so I hope. :D

May Day. Wow.

Mom has yet to catch on to the heating and air in this house; namely, she is constantly trying to adjust the temperature in the house by using the heat setting. Problem is, the way it works is that the cool doesn't come on until you set a temperature for the cool to automatically come on-and Mom's fiddling with the heat means that it will NEVER get to the temperature needed to turn on the air conditioning. It's almost 80 degrees outside and the heat is on!

Being quixotic where explaining things to Mom, I went and reset everything and once again explained to her how it worked. Not suprisingly, I got yelled at...you'd think I'd learn. Like when I saw a raccoon nosing around the yard last week and told Mom that she needed to keep an eye on Cooper when he was outside; I got yelled at about that too, until she saw the raccoon. Where of course she acted as if keeping an eye on Cooper was HER idea.

Parents...o.O

Yes, you read the song right *shakes fist at Maggie* :P

Settling into a routine here at the new place-provided you skip me nearly driving back to the old house after a visit to the mall this evening (I hadn't done anything but work and move since last Wednesday, I was going nuts.) Caught myself in time to make a single turn and get headed in the right direction, but goodness, I lived in that neighborhood, in one place or another, since I was a kid-since I moved from West Virginia in fact. Gimme a break, lol. Basically, though, this should be the last of the "Jack Posts About Moving" posts...yeah, I know, they've been dreadfully boring. :P

Later.

Ok, slight change of plans-I should be moved out by tomorrow, which makes my online time off from Thursday to Monday, however, this means I won't miss Friday at work, so I can jump in there and check up on all you lovely people before I go home, and then it won't be long until my cell phone comes into play. One thing is certain-I'll go nuts this weekend without the internets. AHHHHHH. :p
